On June 1, 2020, Ontario Premier Doug Ford announced that Ontario’s Progressive Conservatives are seeking an extension of Ontario’s state of emergency, which is currently set to expire on June 2, 2020, for four weeks, until June 30, 2020.

Notably, Ontario has only extended its state of emergency during the COVID-19 pandemic by two weeks at a time thus far. Accordingly, it appears very likely that Ontario employers will be subject to emergency orders under the Emergency Management and Civil Protection Act until at least Canada Day.
