On July 31, 2020, the federal government announced that the Canada Emergency Commercial Rent Assistance (“CECRA”) program has been officially extended for the month of August. The CECRA program, which provides rent relief to small businesses that have lost 70 per cent or more of their revenue due to COVID-19, was originally intended to last until the end of June 2020, and was previously extended for the month of July. This further extension for August is good news for employers of small businesses that have been heavily impacted by COVID-19. For more details on the CECRA program, please see our earlier article.
